Patterson Park Health Center

A Dayton community health center is getting a new home and a new name.

Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton is moving Southview Health Center to Breitenstrater Square Shopping Center, where it will be renamed Patterson Park Health Center.

Patterson Park will be part of Dayton-based Community Health Centers’ nonprofit network of seven locations and a mobile health unit. The network served a total 17,886 patients and 58,070 patient visits in 2017.

Gregg Hopkins, CEO of Community Health Centers, said the nonprofit will spend an estimated $300,000 on relocating the office and is aiming to open the center in late May.

“We like that it’s very visible,” Hopkins said.

Southview needed to move after its lease was not renewed at 25 Thorpe Ave. so it is moving to a vacant medical office formerly home to Ohio Pain Solutions at the corner of Patterson Road and Wilmington Avenue.

Along with the new location, Hopkins said the new name will help eliminate confusion since people now confuse it with the separate but similarly named Southview Medical Center, operated by Kettering Health Network.

Hopkins said the center will have 10 exam rooms, two physicians and two nurse practitioners.

Community Health Centers is a federally qualified health center, which receives better reimbursements from Medicaid and Medicare and caters to low income patients. It’s led by a board of directors with patients serving as the majority of board members.

About 66 percent of Community Health Centers’ patients last year paid with Medicaid, 17 percent paid with Medicare, 6 percent were uninsured and 11 percent paid with private insurance plans.
